Covid Vaccine Clinic Patient Experience

All clinical trials were conducted in Covid-19 vaccination clinics at Middlesex Health, Middletown, Connecticut, with Institutional Review Board approval in 2021. The data from these studies have not been published yet, but data indicate a substantial benefit to the patient’s vaccine experience.

Adults Studies

Results link from the First Clinical Trial Conducted in a Covid Vaccine Clinic with 56 Adults*

  • 91% would like to use Kool Shield again.  This is far greater than the 25% of adults who report a fear of needles.

  • 82% felt the Ice Pod improved their injection experience. 

  • 23% of the control group given a vaccine in the typical “grin and bear it” way without ice numbing would have liked something to reduce pain.

* This was the only trial with an additional control group of 48 adults.

Results link from a Second Clinical Trial Conducted in a Covid Vaccine Clinic with 25 Adults*

  • 16% ranked pre-injection anxiety 8 out of 10 or higher. (10 was extremely anxious)

  • 64% felt the Ice Pod was Slightly or Much Better than vaccinations without the device.

  • 56% said they would Likely or Very Likely request the Ice Pod at their next vaccination.

  • 76% said they would Likely or Very Likely recommend the Ice Pod to their family or friends.

Pediatric Covid Clinic

Results link from the First Clinical Trial Conducted in a Pediatric Covid Vaccine Clinic with 59 Children, 5-11 Years Old

  • 39% ranked pre-injection anxiety as 8 out of 10 or higher. (10 was extremely anxious)

  • 85% felt the Ice Pod was more helpful compared to other vaccinations.

  • 91% would request to use the Ice Pod at their next vaccination.

  • 80% would Likely or Very Likely recommend the Ice Pod to friends or family.

  • 80% had used the Kool Shield 3 weeks prior.

  • 80% felt the overall experience was Much or Slightly Better than other vaccine appointments.

  • 13% had physical symptoms of anxiety and 25% worried excessively about the appointment

  • 90% rated the importance of options like the Ice Pods as 5 or greater out of 10. (0 being not important and 10 very important)

  • 90% rated the feeling of the Ice Pod Much Better or Slightly Better than the feeling of a needle puncture alone.

  • 95% would Very Likely or Likely use the Ice Pods again.

  • 90% would Very Likely of Likely recommend the Kool Shield to others.
